HURUBATON (Proverbs)

1.    Wala sing adlaw nga walay pala-abuton.

Translation:

Hope is for everyday.

Explanation:

Never give up in taking chances every single day because each new day has its own new hope and new meaning. 

2.    Maskin malayo kon ginalantao
Makahagan-hagan ang kamingao
Apang ang malapit nga may lipud
Nagadugang sang kalisud.

Translation:

Distant which is seen,
the eases loneliness,
but the near which is

Hidden heightens sadness.

Explanation:

Clear vision from a distant for something you’re hoping for eases the loneliness being felt because you can aim straight on it by planning, preparing and moving forward. You expect what may happen and prepare for it. While near but hidden heightens sadness because you know you are physically within its reach but cannot feel its presence. Otherwise stated, “So near yet so far”.

3.    Ang ta-o nga butigon, ma luibon

Translation:

Dishonest persons are deceitful.

Explanation:

A dishonest person has many hidden qualities. Truth is concealed. Lie dominates. Therefore, all his utterances and actions cannot be trusted, for they brings confusion and fraud. 

4.    Ang katamad nagatudlo sing pangawat.

Translation:

Laziness teaches one to steal.

Explanation:

There are no better choices for a lazy person. He just waits and does not work. He is idle while others work.  Therefore, in the long run he gets nothing and the only option is to steal and get what others had worked for.

5.    Ang ulihing pagbasul inutil, subong sang siko nga indi makagat.

Translation:

Regrets are useless, like elbow that can’t be bitten.

Explanation:

Mistakes are already said and done, which cannot be taken back so there is no reason for you to dwell in the past but rather look forward and prepare for the future.
